Estimates are for planning only

This is the important one. Everything on this site — every quantity, every cost, every recommendation — is an estimate for planning purposes. It is not professional engineering, architectural, structural, or construction advice, and it does not create a professional relationship of any kind.

Our calculations assume standard products used in typical residential conditions on level, properly prepared ground. Your project will differ. Real sites have slopes, uneven excavation, soil that swallows more base than expected, spillage, and walls that drink more paint than the data sheet promises. That is exactly why we apply a waste factor and show it to you — but a waste factor is a cushion, not a guarantee.

Before you buy or build, confirm quantities and current prices with your supplier, and confirm anything structural with a licensed professional. Structural slabs, footings, load-bearing elements, retaining walls, and any work requiring a permit or inspection must be designed and verified by a qualified professional against your local building code. Nothing here substitutes for that.

Prices are estimates, not quotes

Costs shown are US national-average estimates as of the date printed on the page. They are not live, not regional, and not offers. Ready-mix delivery, bulk landscaping materials, and contractor labour vary enormously by market and by season, and short-load and delivery fees can change the total materially. Treat every figure as a starting point for your own quotes.

No warranty

The site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

We work hard on accuracy — constants are taken from manufacturer data sheets, independently re-derived, and locked into an automated test suite, as described in How we calculate — but we do not warrant that the site is error-free or that any result will match what your project actually needs. If you find an error, please report it; we treat corrections as a priority.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, BagsAndYards and its operator are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising out of your use of, or inability to use, this site — including wasted materials, wasted trips, project delays, cost overruns, structural failures, or lost profits — whether or not we were advised of the possibility. You use the estimates at your own risk and remain responsible for verifying them before spending money or pouring concrete.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions of liability, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Affiliate and advertising disclosure

The site is free to use and is supported by display advertising and by affiliate or partner links to retailers and contractor-matching services. If you buy a product or request a quote through one of those links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

You may use the calculators and read the guides freely, including for commercial projects of your own. Please don’t scrape the site at a volume that degrades it for others, republish our guides wholesale, or present our calculators as your own product. Short quotations with a link back are welcome and need no permission.

Intellectual property

The text, layout, and code of this site are our copyright. The underlying facts, formulas, and physical constants are not ours and never could be — a cubic yard is 27 cubic feet whoever writes it down — and we cite their sources so you can check them yourself.

Links to other sites

We link to manufacturer data sheets, extension-service publications, retailers, and service providers. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content, their products, or their privacy practices. Once you leave bagsandyards.com, their terms apply.
